Data Protection

LegalZoom customers consent to the following: the supply of your data to parent or subsidiary companies of LegalZoom Enterprises Ltd., LegalZoom partners and third party suppliers or data processing agents; and the transfer of your data to countries outside the EEA. As a matter of policy, LegalZoom never allows your name and address to be used by unconnected organisations. Your personal data will be processed only for the following purposes:

E.U. Safe Harbor Program

What are cookies?

We use "cookies" to store and collect information regarding your use of our site. Cookies are small pieces of information stored by the browser on your computer's hard drive. What Information Do We Collect About Our Customers?

Personal Data. LegalZoom requires each customer to provide us with personal data to access and use LegalZoom products and services. Personal data is captured only when a visitor accesses Online Services, or speaks on the phone with a LegalZoom employee, and willingly discloses that information. This disclosure may occur when a visitor registers with an Online Service, engages in transactions, contacts customer service, or participates in contests, promotions, surveys, chats, texts, SMS, or other aspects of services offered by LegalZoom.

Personal data includes: (i) "Contact Data" (such as your name, address, city, postcode, telephone number, and email address); (ii) "Financial Data" (such as your credit card number, expiration date, and verification code); (iii) "Demographic Data" (such as your postcode and sex); and (iv) other "Legal Data" (such as your automobile information, marital information, mortgage information, company information and other sensitive information necessary to generate legal documents). If you provide us personal information about others, or if others give us your information, we will only use that information for the specific reason for which it was provided to us.

Certain personal data becomes public record when documents are filed with the government, or with a court. For example, a corporation's name and business address become public information when it is registered with Companies House. Companies House may publish this information to its website. The LegalZoom Privacy Policy does not cover these or similar third-party actions.

Calls/Electronic Communications. In the regular course of our business, LegalZoom may monitor and record phone conversations or email communications between you and LegalZoom employees for training and quality assurance purposes. We may receive a confirmation when you open or click on content in an email from us, which helps us make our communications to you more useful and interesting. If you do not wish to receive email from LegalZoom, you may unsubscribe from our mailing list on any of the emails we send.

LegalZoom will not delete customer information for paying members. However, LegalZoom reserves the right to delete customer information for customers whose members has expired at any time.

How Do We Use the Information We Collect and Do We Share the Information We Receive?

We use information we collect from the Online Services to communicate with you, process your orders, facilitate your transactions with our third-party partners, and inform you of offers and discounts. For example, you may receive a welcome email that confirms your username and password, and later receive communications responding to your inquiries, providing services you request, and managing your account. We occasionally send service-related announcements, for example, to alert you if we need to temporarily suspend the Site for maintenance. We send promotional emails and newsletters from time to time to our purchasers and those who have opted in to receive such emails. Use of Personal Data. LegalZoom, sometimes with the assistance of a third party or LegalZoom subsidiary, may use your Personal Data to process your payment through merchant account services, to generate the products and services you order, and to analyze our customer demographics. Your Contact Data may be used to follow up with you on transactions you initiate through Online Services, respond to inquiries made through Online Services, inform you of changes to Online Services, and send you additional information about LegalZoom and its products and services. Unless specifically authorized by you, we do not provide Personal Data to third parties for marketing purposes. We will share your personal information with third parties only in the ways that are described in this privacy policy.

Contact Data and Traffic Data are used to gather general statistics about our customers and visitors. We may use Demographic Data to generate collective information about our users, but not in a way that identifies any user specifically. For example, we may inform third parties about the number of registered users and unique visitors, and the pages most frequently browsed.

Third Party Providers. Certain services offered on by LegalZoom may be fulfilled by a third party. These companies need access to your Personal Data to fulfill those services.
  • Legal Plan Services.  Legal Plan Services are provided by third-party independent law firms. Documents created using LegalZoom will be shared with your assigned firm to allow to lawyers at that firm to provide consultations on those documents and to recommend additional legal services that you might need based on those documents.
  • Company Formation Services. Company Formation Services are provided by A1 Company Services Limited (“A1”), a third-party independent contractor. A1 Company Services Limited is a private limited company registered in England and Wales under number 4727888 with a registered office at Winnington House, 2 Woodberry Grove, North Finchley, London N12 0DR. Your Personal Information, including the answers you provide in your company formation questionnaire on the LegalZoom website will be shared with A1 for the sole purpose of completing your company formation registration with Companies House.

Service Providers. We may share your Personal Data with companies that provide support services to us (such as a printer or email service provider) or that help us market our products and services. These companies may need information about you in order to perform their functions. These companies are not authorized to use the information we share with them for any other purpose.

LegalZoom may share your information with third parties who perform tasks required to complete a purchase transaction. All such third parties are prohibited from using your personal data except to provide these services to LegalZoom, and they are required to maintain the confidentiality of your information.

Opting Out. You may choose not to provide LegalZoom with Personal Data or you may turn off cookies in your browser by changing its settings. If you make these decisions, you may continue to use the Online Services and browse its pages. However, LegalZoom cannot process orders without Personal Data.

Other Transfers. We may share Personal Data and other data with businesses controlling, controlled by, or under common control with LegalZoom. If LegalZoom is merged, acquired, or sold, or if some or all of our assets or equity are transferred, we may disclose or transfer Personal Data and other data in connection with the associated transactions. In this case, you will be notified via email and/or a prominent notice on our Web site of any change in ownership or uses of your personal information, as well as any choices you may have regarding your personal information.

Bankruptcy. In the event of a LegalZoom bankruptcy, insolvency, reorganization, receivership, or assignment for the benefit of creditors, or the application of laws or equitable principles affecting creditors' rights generally, we may not be able to control how your personal data is treated, transferred, or used. If such an event occurs, you will be notified via email and/or a prominent notice on our Web site of any change in ownership or uses of your personal information, as well as any choices you may have regarding your personal information.

Legal Disclaimer. We may also share your information as required by law, such as to comply with a subpoena, or similar legal process or when we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, protect your safety or the safety of others, investigate fraud, or respond to a government request.


Third-Party Websites and Third-Party Service Providers. LegalZoom may maintain links to other websites and other websites may maintain links to the Online Services. This Privacy Policy applies only to and not to other websites accessible from LegalZoom or that you use to access LegalZoom, each of which may have privacy policies materially different from this Privacy Policy. If you visit other websites, LegalZoom is not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those sites. It is your responsibility to review the privacy policies of non-LegalZoom websites to confirm that you understand and agree with them.
